Pipes and Voices bring together 3,000 pipes and 20 voices with the full splendor of choir and organ in a program that illustrates the organ's majestic sweep — capable of both soaring transcendence and quiet sweetness. At its heart is Zoltán Kodály's Missa Brevis, written in hiding during the final year of World War II—a powerful expression of humankind's plea for mercy and peace. Works by J.S. Bach, Charles Hubert Hastings Parry, Mendelssohn, Fauré, Judith Bingham, and Joanna Marsh round out a program spanning four centuries of extraordinary choral music. At the organ is GRAMMY-nominated artist and Spire founding member Dr. Jan Kraybill, bringing to life what Mozart called "the king of instruments."
